About your product

Start with a verb: “turns…”, “helps you…”.

What happened to you, not a marketing line.

A specific question gets far better replies than “thoughts?”

Post the link in the first reply rather than the main post; many makers find posts with links get shown to fewer people.

I built Ledgerly: it turns bank statements into clean spreadsheets for freelancers and small agencies. I spent hours every month copying bank statements into a spreadsheet for my accountant. It's live today. Is it clear from the homepage what it does?

These are starting points. Replace anything in [brackets], and rewrite it in your own voice before you post.

Why Each Platform Gets a Different Post

A launch post that works on one platform often flops on another. Each community has its own expectations, and the drafts follow them:

  • X: short and personal, with the link in the first reply.
  • Show HN: a plain title, and a first comment with the backstory and the technical details. See our guide to writing a Show HN post.
  • Reddit: the problem first, then what you built, a specific question, and a clear note that you're the maker. See how to launch on Reddit without getting banned.
  • Indie Hackers: the story, the stack and real numbers, even small ones.
  • LinkedIn: for when your customers or their colleagues are there.

What Makes a Launch Post Work

  • Say what it does in the first line. People decide in seconds.
  • Lead with the problem, in your own words. “I kept losing hours to…” beats “Introducing the future of…”.
  • Say you built it. Posing as a happy user is the fastest way to lose a community's trust.
  • Ask one specific question. It gives people a reason to reply.
  • Stay for the replies. On most platforms, the conversation after the post is the launch.

Before you post, tag each link with the UTM link builder so you can see what each platform actually sent you, and pick your channels from our list of places to launch.

Common questions

Does this use AI to write the posts?
No. It fills proven templates with your own words, so nothing you type leaves your browser and the posts sound like you. Treat them as a first draft and rewrite them in your own voice.
How is the X character count worked out?
The same way X counts it: most letters count as one, emoji count as two, and every link counts as 23 characters, however long it really is. The limit for a standard post is 280.
Should I post on every platform on the same day?
Usually not. Spreading launches over a week or two lets you reply to everyone, fix what people point out, and improve each post before the next one.
Can I post the same text everywhere?
It's better not to. Each community expects something different: Show HN wants technical detail, Reddit wants an honest story and a question, Indie Hackers wants real numbers. That's why each draft is written differently.
What's the Show HN title limit?
Hacker News titles can be up to 80 characters, including "Show HN: ". Keep it plain: what it is and what it does, without hype or exclamation marks.
