Votes vs Visits: Why Hauntboard Puts Clicks First

A vote tells you someone liked a launch. A click tells you they went to look. Hauntboard shows both, and leads with clicks.

Most launch boards rank products by votes. Votes are a useful signal: they're quick to give and they surface what people like. Hauntboard has public votes too.

But a vote doesn't answer the question makers ask most after a launch: did anyone actually go and look?

What a Vote Can't Tell You

People vote for all sorts of reasons. They like the idea, they know the maker, or they were asked to on launch day. None of that is wrong, but it means a vote count and a visit count can be very different numbers, and only one of them shows up in your analytics.

A launch with modest votes can send more visitors than one with many, and the reverse. If the board only shows votes, you can't tell which you got.

Why Hauntboard Leads With Clicks

On Hauntboard, every launch page shows two public numbers: page views, and outbound clicks, which count the times someone left Hauntboard to visit the product. Outbound clicks are the headline number.

We try to keep them honest. Each visitor is counted once per browser per day, and requests from known bots are filtered out. No counting method is perfect, so compare our numbers with your own analytics: your referrer report should list Hauntboard as a source.

Where Votes Fit

Votes still matter on Hauntboard. They're public, and they help order each week's board. They just aren't the number we ask you to judge a launch by.

Public Numbers Raise the Bar

When visit counts are public, makers can see what a launch board delivers before they spend time or money on it, and boards have to earn trust with results rather than claims. That's the bar we've set ourselves. Hauntboard is new, so there aren't many numbers to show yet; whatever they turn out to be, they'll stay public.

Don't be a ghost. Launch on Hauntboard.

Every approved launch runs for a week, gets a person's review and shows its page views and outbound clicks in public. Approved listings get a dofollow link (free listings keep it while the Hauntboard badge stays up).
